Norstar Telephone Systems Core Cabinet

The Core cabinet of the Norstar MICS telephone System, (Pictured Right) houses all of the central control functions of the Norstar Telephone System, Along with two trunk cards.

The trunk configuration of the Norstar Core cabinet is dependent on the type trunk cards used. Standard trunk cards provide for connection of four telephone company lines. Caller ID Trunk Cards provide for four telephone lines with caller ID features. ISDN trunk cards provide for connection of two or four BRI circuits to an ISDN Network, T-1 Trunk card will interface with one T-1 trunk which will provide upto 24 channels of Voice communication. PRI Interface, the same card as the T-1 however for PRI use required a software licence. The Card will provide for 23 voice channels plus a 64k channel enabling the Norstar phone system to communicate with the telephone switch of the PRI service provider. T-1 and PRI require the use of either a combo expansion card or services card to operate as does the ISDN card. With the Installation of a two T-1 cards and circuits the Norstar Core cabinet is able to provide for 24-trunks and 32 Norstar telephone sets. Using standard and Caller ID trunks the trunk capacity of the Norstar core cabinet is reduced to eight, however a total of six trunk expansion modules may be added to the Norstar MICS telephone system, that will enable a total of 80 telephone lines to be Installed on a Norstar MICS phone system.

The Norstar telephone system power supply

The Norstar telephone system power works independently in each module of the Norstar MICS telephone systems. The Power supply works like any transformer accepting power a standard 110 VAC outlet and converting that electrical current into the various voltage need to operate the Norstar telephone system.  (B)

Norstar Software Cartridge

The Norstar Software cartridge provides the operating software for the entire telephone system. ( C )

Norstar Telephone System Expansion Card

Norstar Expansion Cards enable connection of Norstar Expansion modules to the Core of a  Norstar MICS telephone system. Three types of expansion cards exist for the Norstar mics telephone systems. The two port Norstar expansion card enables the connection of upto 2 Norstar expansion modules. The six port Norstar expansion card will enable six expansion modules to be connected to the Norstar core module. The Norstar Combo card also allows six expansion modules to be connected to Norstar telephone systems. (D)

Norstar Trunk Cards

These 2 card slots enable the Installation of two Trunk Cards into the Norstar MICS phone system core cabinet. (see above section A for more about Norstar MICS telephone systems trunk cards. (E)

Norstar MICS Trunk and Extension Connections

For cable termination to the Norstar telephone system follow the previous link, F, G, and H, shows where the Amphenol  end of a twenty five pair cable is connected to the Norstar telephone system. The end of the 25-pair cable, that has be terminated uses the standard USOC 25-pair telephone cable color code termination onto a 66 e or 110 telephone system termination block.
