Avaya Merlin Magix 4424 Large Display

The Avaya Merlin Magix 4424 Large Display telephone console could be used for a standard desk telephone operation. However it was generally used as the operator extension of the Avaya Merlin Magix telephone system. When equipped with a DSS console the 4424 LD would as the telephone system switchboard and other Central Call Positions.

Administration of the Avaya Merlin Magix telephone system software could also be managed with the 4424 LD when connected to a port of the telephone system with Administration privileges.

Large Merlin Magix telephone systems would normally be equipped with an Avaya SPM terminal for Programming and software maintenance however the 4424 works just as effectively In many smaller telephone operations.

An SPM terminal is a computer running the Avaya telephone System Programming and Maintenance software and is connected to the Magix telephone system.

The Avaya Merlin Magix Digital Hybrid Telephone Systems

The Avaya Merlin Magix able to accommodate upto 200 phones and 80 standard telephone lines without the use of t-1 or other digital interfaces. However Merlin Magix also has optional interfaces for T-1, PRI, and VOIP telephone lines as well.

The Merlin Magix was in production for less than ten years, one of the shorter product life spans for an Avaya business telephone system. The period of time Merlin Magix existed cover two companies Lucent Technologies and Avaya. The Production of the telephone system was discontinued in 2006.

Avaya Merlin Magix 4400 Business Phones

The Avaya Merlin Magix 4400 Series telephones consisted of a single line phone the 4400 set and matching counterpart equipped with a display the 4400 D. General use telephones were models 4412-D and 4424-D sets. The 4412-d phones were equipped as speaker phones with display and twelve telephone line keys that could be configured for telephone line access, or access to telephone system features. There were an additional twelve keys on the telephone that had no status lights, some telephone system features could be programmed on these keys, however any telephone system feature that required a light for status indication could not be programmed on these keys. Merlin Magix 4412 business phones were normally used in any area where telephone system users were required to answer a high volume of phone calls or originate a high volume of outbound telephone calls. The Avaya Merlin Magix 4424 telephone, unlike the 4412 had light for all twenty-four of its telephone line keys enabling any telephone system features to be programmed onto any button. The 4424 D would normally be the phone model of choice for departmental answering positions. The 4424 sets also allowed upto twenty four telephone lines to appear at the phone. The 4412 telephone set was limited to the total of twelve. The Merlin Magix 4406 D would allow telephone calls to be answered and originated form a 4406 set however the telephone was not recommended to be used in high call volumes although the 4406 telephone would work fine at those positions. The reason for the recommendation though was the limited number of features that could be added to the phone via button access.    

South Gate California

South Gate California is located in the southeastern portion of Los Angeles County. South Gate with a population over 94,000 residents is Los Angeles County’s sixteenth largest city. South Gate has decreased in population since the 2000 census of over 8000 residents. The city has an area of 7.4 miles of which 7.2 miles is land. South Gate has had major growth in each decade since 1930 until the recent decline. Between 1930 to 1940 a 37 percent growth was recorded to begin the trend. From 1940 to 1950 was the largest growth as the population expanded from 26,945 to 51,116 an 89.7 percent growth in population. Another major growth period occurred between 1980 and 1990 as South Gate grew from 66,784 to 86,284 nearly 30% . The name of South Gate appears to have originated from the area at one time being the South Gate of Don Antonio Mario Lugo’s  San Antonio Ranch. By the time the city of South Gate was founded the Ranch San Antonio had been parceled and sold with one section being the Cudahy Ranch. In 1918 the area had become known as the South Gate Gardens which was located on the Cudahy Ranch. When the city was formed, the name South Gate Gardens was shorten to South Gate . The city of South Gate California was incorporated in 1923.
